The most outstanding area in the Eastern Europe

By: Mathew Petrenko

There is very big unitary state that is situated in the southern part of Central Europe and named Ukraine. There are twenty four provinces which called “oblast” are comprised into this country, but there are also two urban districts which are considered to be separate provinces: the capital of Ukraine – Kiev and Sevastopol. The result of the orange revolution which took place in 2004, is that Ukraine has got the status of semi-presidential republic. The current type of power is more democratic that the previous one. Now the country is controlled not by a single man, but by several branches of authority. Ukraine borders on Bulgaria, Romania, Poland, Moldova and Hungary form the west, Turkey form the south; the Russian border is the longest one it is from North and East. There are Crimea and Carpathian mountains in Ukraine, Carpathian are considerably higher then Crimea mountains. Through the territory of Ukraine flows Dnieper, that is considered to be one of the longest rivers in Europe. Thanks to the river Ukraine gets the most of its hydroelectric energy. The winters thanks to the soft climate are not very cold. It snows often and most rivers get covered by ice. The summers are rainy with temperatures frequently going about 30 Centigrade. However, the weather is dry and hot most of the time.

Thanks to favorable conditions, Ukraine is famous for its quality soils and significantly developed agriculture. Ukraine is believed to be one of the largest exporters of sugar. In common, the country produces lots of produce: maize, corn, vegetables, fruit, etc. Kiev is a quite old city and it is the capital of Ukraine. Even today we can find some buildings dated 5th century there. That city is just amazing. It was the small settlement that became the center of Slavic civilization in the Eastern Europe. The decrease of development of Kiev was caused by the Mongolian incursion in the 13th century, the city was fully demolished for a quite long period. Great impact on the growth was caused by the foundation of the Soviet Union. The Ukrainian Soviet Republic assisted Kiev to regain prominence. Today the population of Kiev is about 3 million people. According to the censuses the population is quickly growing year after year. We can not even nearly estimate the number of different nationalities that are comprised into this amazing city. Not less than 120 ethnic groups live here. In the second part of 20th century its population grew considerably as a result of improvement of real estate building in this city. Among blue and white blocks of flats created modern downtown buildings. During several last years Kiev has received the status of full-fledged European city with many chic restraints and luxury hotels.

Ukraine economy gains power after the period of post Soviet troubles. Today Ukraine is very respectable country that is known not as a region of the Soviet Union, but as independent country. All the countries included into WTO are pleasantly inviting Ukraine to become a member of this organization.
